webPOISONCONTROL®: Links and resources for poison centers

What is webPOISONCONTROL?

webPOISONCONTROL is a FREE online tool that:

  • helps poison center staff provide triage recommendations and guidance to poison center callers ("SPI Interface"), and

  • helps people who can’t or won’t call the poison center to determine what to do for single substance unintentional exposures ("Public Triage Tool").

Both “sides” of webPOISONCONTROL use ingredient-based algorithms written by clinical and medical toxicologists and a robust product and substance database. webPOISONCONTROL is funded by philanthropy, and neither poison centers nor the public are charged for its use.

The National Capital Poison Center is committed to sharing webPOISONCONTROL's triage algorithms, product database, and case data with participating poison centers to:

  • harmonize triage guidelines,

  • foster transparency,

  • improve the accuracy and efficiency of poison exposure call triage,

  • provide excess capacity for poison centers during disasters,

  • optimize product safety through surveillance for product hazards, and

  • promote research about poisonings.

webPOISONCONTROL Geo Data Analysis Dashboard

(A data analysis dashboard for poison centers)

This Qlik dashboard was designed for poison centers to analyze cases generated by public users and managed online by the public webPOISONCONTROL triage tool. Built on a Qlik Sense platform, the dashboard provides extensive analytic capabilities for online cases from your poison center's region. You can add these online cases to your local caller case data to demonstrate the full need for poison center expertise in your region or use the data for product surveillance and research. Dashboard licenses are available for one person at each center at no cost to you. For more information, email pc@poison.org

NOTE: Cases are NOT created when SPIs use the webPOISONCONTROL SPI Interface as a tool to help triage callers. Cases are only created and fed into the dashboard when the public uses the online webPOISONCONTROL triage tool.
