Mike Chary, MD, PhD

Michael Chary, MD PhD is the co-Director of webPOISONCONTROL, a practicing emergency physician and medical toxicologist for the past 10 years, and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornel Medicine in New York City, where he serves as the site Principal Investigator for the Toxicology Investigator’s Consortium. He completed his MD and PhD in computational neuroscience at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, residency in Emergency Medicine at New York Presbyterian-Queens, and fellowship in Medical Toxicology at the Harvard Medical Toxicology Fellowship.

Dr. Chary has authored nearly 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, including the chapter on sympathomimetics in Rosen’s Emergency Medicine and on illicit drugs and intoxicants in the Merck Manual. His research develops computational tools to extract toxicological information from real-world data. Two of his publications rank among the ten most-cited articles in the Journal of Medical Toxicology, one demonstrating the use of social media to predict opioid overdoses and another reviewing the toxicity of herbal supplements used to treat COVID-19. Dr. Chary’s work has been funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse, the Food & Drug Administration, and the Emergency Medicine Foundation.

Dr. Chary lives in New York City with his wife and daughter. He enjoys swimming, traveling, and playing music.
