“Leaves of Three, Let It Be!”
    poisonivy

Poison ivy causes problems for the unwary at every season of the year. We learn to stay away from it when hiking, weeding, or clearing brush, but tend to forget about it when cooler weather arrives.

Poison ivy leaves change color in the fall and so confuses people who only think to look for it in warm weather. Later in the fall, the vines drop their leaves and exhibit white berries. The vines do not die back, but stay firmly adhered to tree trunks via rootlets.

    spike2

Spike, the Poison Prevention Porcupine, is now available to teach poison prevention to children, right in your own home. In an eleven minute live-action DVD, Spike the porcupine puppet and his guitar- playing friend teach pre-schoolers to stay away from poisons. The DVD can be played on a set-top DVD player or in a computer equipped with a DVD drive.

The disk also contains educational materials that can be read on and printed from a computer. A Parents’ Guide gives information about keeping homes safe for children. A Teachers’ Guide contains the song lyrics and ideas for teaching poison prevention to groups of children.

This DVD is free to residents of the National Capital Poison Center's service area (District of Columbia, the Maryland counties of Montgomery and Prince George’s, and, in Virginia, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas and Manassas Park).

Also, a limited number of Spike programs are available to child care centers that have VHS instead of DVD players.
